Meat Puppets’ original lineup reunites for new album ‘Dusty Notes’ — hear 1st single ‘Warranty’

Following their on-stage reunion in August 2017, The Meat Puppets’ Curt and Cris Kirkwood re-teamed with original drummer Derrick Bostrom in the studio for the original trio’s first new album in 24 years, a 10-song collection called Dusty Notes that’s preceded by first single “Warranty.”

Due out March 8 on Megaforce Records, the new album is the first featuring the band’s original lineup since 1995’s No Joke! The band is expected to head out on tour later in 2019.

The Kirkwoods and Bostrom first reunited when the Meat Puppets were inducted into the Arizona Music & Entertainment Hall of Fame. They performed a nine-song set at the Aug. 17, 2017, ceremony at Phoenix’s Celebrity Theater, where the band was joined by fellow honorees Nils Lofgren and the Gin Blossoms.

The set, which included performances of “Oh, Me,” “Plateau,” “Lake of Fire” and the band’s ’90s alternative radio hit “Backwater,” marked the first time Bostorm had performed with the Meat Puppets since Dec. 31, 1995. During much of the band’s 2000 reunions, Shandon Sahm has served as drummer.

“It was so intense that even I couldn’t deny it,” Bostrom is quoted as saying in the press materials announcing the new album. “I remember why we did this. It was magical.”  Cris Kirkwood adds: “It was the psychedelic fuckin’ time machine. Mind-blowing.”
