The ’80s-themed Like Totally Music Festival that was scheduled for Saturday at Huntington State Beach south of Los Angeles was canceled today, two days after co-headliners The Bangles dropped out and after organizers failed to provide proper safety documentation for the stage.
The Bangles announced on Wednesday that they wouldn’t be playing the festival “due to unseen circumstances.” The event was to have been co-headlined by Public Image Ltd., and also include ABC with Martin Fry, The Smithereens featuring Marshall Crenshaw, The Romantics, The Tubes and more.
Today, the organizers pulled the plug entirely, writing on the event’s website:
We are very saddened to announce the cancellation of the Like Totally Music Festival this Saturday, May 11th. We unfortunately have issues we cannot resolve to continue and for the safety and well-being of the bands and fans we have to make this decision. We apologize for the inconvenience. We are working on rescheduling the festival for a later date and tickets will be honored at that time. Thank you for being a fan!
The Orange County Register reported that the organizers canceled the festival because they had failed to provide California State Parks officials with a required “structural engineering report for the stage to prove it was sound and could hold a certain number of people.”
Organizers say they’re trying to reschedule the festival and that tickets would be honored for a new date. No refund information has been announced.
So I’m sitting here at the Hyatt, killing time that should be spent at a killer concert. I’m local so I’m only out hotel cost and food/drink for the weekend. Others came from out of town and I really feel bad for them. For all of us, #bitter
It was stupid for the concert to come to this. Was it the organizers or the state? Fingers certain to point.
And I won’t be sad at all, when promoters take the fall.
