The Cure to release 6-disc ‘40 Live: Curaetion-25 + Anniversary’ audio/video box set

The Cure will commemorate last year’s 40th anniversary celebration with a new 6-disc box set this fall that will include full audio and video of the band’s recently screened “Anniversary” concert film as well as the yet-to-be-seen visual document of the group’s Meltdown festival set.

The box set, 40 Live: Curaetion-25 + Anniversary, will be released Oct. 18 by Eagle Rock Entertainment, according to a product listing on Amazon.com. It’s available for pre-order now in three formats: a 2 Blu-ray/4 CD set, a 2 DVD /4  CD set and, for those not interested in the audio discs, a 2 DVD set.

The Cure performed two major career retrospectives last year, both of which are included here.

On June 24, the band closed the Robert Smith-curated Meltdown festival in London — the event’s 25th installment — with a 28-song set called “Cureation-25: From There to Here, From Here to There,” during which The Cure played one song off each of its 13 studio albums in chronological order, then counted back down again. Plus, they played two unreleased songs (“It Can Never Be the Same,” “Step Into the Light”).

Then, on July 7, Smith and Co. performed a massive 29-song 40th anniversary concert to tens of thousands of fans in London’s Hyde Park, documented by Tim Pope in the film “Anniversary 1978-2018: Live in Hyde Park London,” which last month screened in cinemas worldwide.

Below, check out the setlists for the two concerts to be included on 40 Live.

  1. Cue the ‘new album’ is delayed indefinitely news lol…

  2. They know how to milk that cash cow. But, yeah, I’ll buy it!

  3. This is going to be incredible. I’m all over this!

  4. Why not a vinyl release??

  5. Christopher Guevara

    Vinyl please.

  6. Christie Erschen

Comes out 10 days before my birthday so I actually know what to ask my husband for this year

  7. Salvy Spera

    Oh great

  8. I’ve watched their recent Sydney show about five times now, and they’re still amazing live. I’ll buy this.

  9. I was at both shows. Getting this for sure!

  10. THE CURE IS THE BEST EVER…. COMPLETE PERFECTION…THE BEST BAND YOU WILL EVER SEE.HOW THEY CONTINUE TO BE SO GREAT IS BEYOND BELIEF!!!

  11. Scott Stalcup

Another. Damned. Live show? Kind of getting into that “Big Country” mentality, Bob.

    • If another live album or box set from Big Country means some royalties find their way to the late, great Stuart Adamson’s son and daughter, then I say keep ’em coming! And since a new studio album from the original lineup hasn’t been an option for 17+ years–for obvious, tragic reasons–I’ll take the next best thing.

And I’ll most happily buy this box set as well. Listening/viewing party at your place, UE405?! ;)

      • Scott Stalcup

Your virtue signaling is rather boring, considering that while Stuart was still among us, they released (at least): King Biscuit Live, Brighton Rock Live, and Kings of Emotion Live INBETWEEN Why the Long Face? and Driving to Damascus. And I doubt very highly either of his kids are seeing a penny in terms of royalties.

How many different ways can they do “Harvest Home” and “A Night Like This” respectively anyway?

  12. Bryan Macabre

So what’s up with the WISH Remaster? I guess that’s shelfed again? Robert says it’s finished ages ago it seems

    • As always with The Cure Releases: believe it when they are actually released otherwise, well, the weather channel is as reliable when it comes to the weather prediction a month in advance…

  13. As nice as it is to have a document of these memorable shows, It would be much nicer to have the new album or even the Wish remaster (or the myriad of other unreleased projects) come out.
At the very least, I sure hope it’s mixed much better than Bestival was. Sorry to say, but it sounded like shite!

  14. Derek e monelle

    I remember the excitment
And anticipation of new releases from the early 80s and the truth is i Still feel that total Buzz of electric excitment when the cure release new discs or announce new uk gigs. Love this band so so much. Siouxsie and the banshees and the cure have been the soundtrack to my entire Life.and still it plays! Bliss. From bristolblue (derek e monelle) x

  15. HAYLEY DALY

Oh wow! I had to miss out on Hyde Park due to a family holiday, but this is the next-best thing for me….the listings are amazing for both DVDs.

  16. Don Juggalo

Ugh…I have a recording of EVERY one of these songs live already, including the 2 new ones. Thought Bob was never gonna let The Cure become a “greatest hits” band. How about some more new music before rehashing the same live songs we have 4-5 copies of already (the last 3 discs)?! Sorry – Cure is my FAVE band, but I won’t be buying this (at least not yet). I got Joining the Dots sealed for $14.99, so um no, just no. Lazy… (Especially since we’re still waiting for at least 2 music & 2-3 other promised video releases) Still my FAVE band though…

  17. Don Juggalo

Word. I TOTALLY agree with you. I could not bring myself to buy Bestival. It just wasn’t necessary. I’ll just pop in my In Orange DVD, Show/Paris, or even the 2005 disc (weird w/o keyboards, but DIFFERENT at least).

  18. Don Juggalo

Agreed. How many times are we supposed to buy live versions of the SAME songs? It’s just sad. Bob said they weren’t gonna become another greatest hits band. If so okay, but stop with the 5th live versions of some songs & 10th of others (A Forest). JMHO

  19. Don Juggalo

    Agreed.

  20. At least it should be available in a 2xBD set.
Still, would have rather had a release of the 3 Imaginy Boys / 17 Seconds / Faith recording from Sydney a few years back…

  21. From the edge of the deep green sea
Sometimes songs just get in to your soul. It brings back lots of memories

  22. Not sure why people are moaning, The cure haven’t released that many live cds, the ones they have are 80s early 90s so it’s nice to bring things up to date.. and Bestival had such a terrible sound it needed replacing (but it was a charity release) There aren’t many dvds either, just Trilogy, and 2005 one which was made up of fan footage, and other bits and pieces so it wasn’t a proper concert. So this set is most welcome and refreshing and loads of songs that didn’t appear on other live albums/dvds. Naturally you’re always going to get the big hits on each one but you get that with every band.
