Between The Psychedelic Furs’ late-spring and early-fall runs of shows in the northeastern and southwestern portions of the U.S., the band will return to its native U.K. for a seven-date tour this summer that includes the band’s previously announced slot at the Hop Farm Festival.
Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak is helping make a feature-length documentary about the so-called ‘Woodstock of the ’80s’ — the 1982 US Festival, which featured Talking Heads, Oingo Boingo, The B-52s, The Cars, Ramones, Gang of Four and more — to be released this Labor Day weekend on the event’s 30th anniversary.

The Cure was announced today as one of the headliners of the U.K.’s massive Reading and Leeds festivals in late August, bringing the band’s total number of European summer festival appearances to 18. This year’s South By Southwest will feature appearances by a horde of ’80s college rock vets, including The Jesus and Mary Chain, Bob Mould performing ‘Copper Blue,’ The Wedding Present, Thomas Dolby, The Cult, Dinosaur Jr and The dB’s, plus R.E.M.’s Peter Buck and Mike Mills playing Big Star’s ‘Third.’
It certainly sounded too good to be true: The La’s were announced as headliners of the inaugural New York Sound City music, media and technology conference this month in what was billed as Lee Mavers and Co.’s first concert in New York City in two decades. But it’s not to be.
It’s been a month since we last checked in with The Cure’s unfolding summer festival plans, and we can now report three more confirmations in Ireland, Russia and Austria, and a schedule that now spreads from late May to early September — with a promise of ’2 or maybe 3 more to confirm,’ according to the band’s website.

The reunited Stone Roses continue to roll out summer festival dates, confirming over the weekend that they’ll headline the U.K.’s V Festival in August. So far, the band is playing 11 festivals in Europe and the Far East, plus standalone gigs in Manchester and Dublin.
Former Replacements bassist Tommy Stinson will take a break from his gigs with Guns N’ Roses and Soul Asylum to embark on a short solo tour this spring, playing six gigs in four days at South By Southwest in Austin, Texas, next month before hitting the East Coast four a handful of shows in April.
