Whereas the first time around, we conducted a yearlong Best of the ’80s album survey, we’re going to dip our toes back into the polling waters by focusing on a single act: The Cure. Last month, we launched the successor to our wildly popular best-albums-of-the-’80s polls, asking you, the readers of Slicing Up Eyeballs, to weigh in with your favorite songs of the year 1980, the first step in a year-long series of polls to pick the best tracks of the decade. Now that the dust has settled from the controversial Best Albums of the ’80s poll, it’s time to get back to the voting. And next up will be a poll to determine the best EPs and mini-albums of the ’80s — basically, that somewhat ambiguous class of release that’s too long to be a single yet not quite long enough to be a full LP.
