For the second premiere in our series of archival videos from Wuxtry Records in Athens, Ga., we explore a more recent vintage with the debut of this full, hour-long set from the hugely influential Pylon, performed at the fabled 40 Watt Club in the early morning hours of Aug. 13, 2005, during the annual Athens PopFest.
This past week, Bob Mould, Throwing Muses and Dead Milkmen headlined the 2011 Athens PopFest, and thanks to YouTube user MisterLettuce, we can share video of their full sets — plus what may just be the highlight, the Milkmen covering local heroes Pylon with that group’s lead singer.
As promised, the Throwing Muses will support the release of the 4AD band’s forthcoming best-of set ‘Anthology’ — which initially will be released in a deluxe package with a second disc of B-sides and rare cuts — with live dates, including a just-announced 15-date tour of Europe and the United Kingdom this fall.
A trio of ’80s college-rock vets — Bob Mould, Throwing Muses and The Dead Milkmen — are among the headliners announced today for the 2011 installment of the Athens PopFest, set for Oct. 11-15 in Athens, Ga.
The 2010 installment of Athens PopFest will feature headlining sets by Mission of Burma and The Wedding Present — which will play 1989′s ‘Bizarro’ in its entirety — as well as Dead Milkmen singer Joe Jack Talcum and the reunited Oh-OK, the early ’80s act featuring Lynda Stipe, sister of R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe.
