Sebadoh hit the road earlier this month for a handful of dates in the western U.S. to tease next months’ release of Defend Yourself, the band’s first new album in 14 years. Sebadoh today announced plans to release its first new album in 14 years this September, a record titled Defend Yourself that follows up last year’s comeback Secret EP and that new label Joyful Noise Recordings claims “marks a return to the self-recorded DIY ethos of early Sebadoh albums (Bakesale, Sebadoh III).”

After several years of touring in support of various classic albums, the reunited Sebadoh this week dropped a surprise on fans: a new five-song EP called Secret, which is both Lou Barlow & Co.’s first new music in 13 years and a teaser to a full-length album that should arrive sometime in 2013.

With Dinosaur Jr on break, bassist Lou Barlow is shifting focus to a revived Sebadoh, with plans to release expanded reissues of 1994’s ‘Bakesale’ and 1996’s ‘Harmacy’ this year and take the famously lo-fi act out on the road for the ‘Bakesale/Harmacy Remembering Time Tour.’
