‘A Box of Sugar’ collects full recordings of Bob Mould’s post-Hüsker Dü act on vinyl

It’s been a big year for fans of Bob Mould’s post-Hüsker Dü act Sugar, with competing — and slightly different — sets of CD reissues out in the U.S. and U.K., plus live performances of Copper Blue around the world. Now, the U.K.’s Demon Music Group is compiling the band’s complete recordings in an 8-record audiophile vinyl set.

Bob Mould was in Los Angeles on Monday ahead of the first of his last two ‘Copper Blue’ shows — after tonight’s L.A. concert and an Austin, Texas, appearance on Friday, he says he’s done playing the Sugar album front-to-back — and squeezed in an appearance on “Conan” to tear through ‘Silver Age’ track “Keep Believing.”

This week’s new releases include ‘Silver Age,’ the first new album in three years from Bob Mould, plus the ‘Spirit of Talk Talk tribute album, featuring Depeche Mode’s Alan Wilder and members of The Arcade Fire and Grandaddy, and ‘Fac. Dance 02,’ a compilation of 12-inch cuts from the Factory Records catalog.

Bob Mould’s first new album in three years — the 10-track ‘Silver Age’ — arrives next week, and the former Hüsker Dü frontman today debuted the record via a full-album stream at RollingStone.com. He tells the rock mag it’s no coincidence the album sounds a bit like Sugar’s just-reissued 1992 debut ‘Copper Blue.’
