The release of the 5-disc box set Scared To Get Happy: A Story of Indie-Pop 1980-1989 is still nearly two months away, but Cherry Red Records has begun teasing fans with some of the music that will appear on the set, including this rare 1982 flexidisc recording by The Bluebells of “Happy Birthday.”
The Primitives will follow up their recently released collection of early singles, demos and live tracks with an expanded double-disc reissue of 1988 debut album Lovely, which then will be followed this September by six concerts across the U.K. dedicated to celebrating the 25th anniversary of that album’s release.
Back in February, Cherry Red Records unveiled the tracklist for its massive, 5-disc box set Scared To Get Happy: A Story of Indie-Pop 1980-1989 via the project’s Facebook page — and then almost immediately began adding more tracks to the 127-song collection.
Mark E. Smith’s iconic post-punk act The Fall returns next month with ‘Re-Mit,’ the band’s 30th studio album in 37 years — a 12-track collection that will be preceded by a 7-inch single on Record Store Day and followed by a nine-date tour of the U.K. in May and early June.
We’re still two weeks out from the release of ‘She Paints Words in Red’ — The House of Love’s first new album in seven years — but Cherry Red Records this morning put the full 12-track record up on Soundcloud for all to hear. We briefly were able to post the video for “A Baby Got Back On Its Feet” — the first single and lead-off track from The House of Love’s sixth album She Paints Words in Red — last month before it was removed from YouTube, but we finally can offer up the track in full now that it’s been premiered.
The reconfigured Big Country — with The Alarm’s Mike Peters filling in for the late Stuart Adamson and the new addition of original Simple Minds bassist Derek Forbes — will release a new album titled ‘The Journey’ this spring and embark on a world tour that will hit the U.K., Europe and North America.
It’s still more than six weeks until the arrival of The House of Love’s sixth album She Paints Words in Red, but the wait for new music is finally over with the premiere of the band’s video for “A Baby Got Back On Its Feet,” which is both the record’s opening track and its lead-off single. Cherry Red Records next month will reissue U.K. art rockers The Blue Aeroplanes’ 1991 album ‘Beatsongs’ — featuring the singles “Yr Own World” and “The Boy in the Bubble,” the latter a Paul Simon cover — in an expanded 2CD edition with 10 bonus tracks, including B-sides, mixes and a pair of previously unreleased tracks.
The Primitives this March will release ‘Everything’s Shining Bright: The Lazy Recordings 1985-1987,’ a two-disc, 40-track set collecting the band’s early singles, a handful of demos, a 1987 live set and a “lost” album comprised of an aborted early session for the band’s 1988 debut ‘Lovely.’
The brand-new album from The House of Love will be titled ‘She Paints Words in Red’ and is expected to be released in March or April on Cherry Red Records, according to an announcement today on the band’s Facebook page that also revealed the cover art for the group’s second post-reunion effort.

The Fall will release their 29th studio album in 35 years — a 10-track collection called ‘Ersatz G.B.’ — in November, when they’ll also embark on an nine-date tour of their native U.K. to mark the record’s arrival.
