Chris Cornell, whose unmistakable multi-octave singing voice branded Seattle’s Soundgarden as one of the true grunge-era standouts, died last night in Detroit following a concert there by the reunited band, the Associated Press reported. Police are investigating Cornell’s death as a possible suicide. He was 52.

Two weeks after playing its first show since 1997 (as ‘Nudedragons’), the reunited Soundgarden tonight shared the first official taste of that Seattle gig: a pro-shot video of the band performing ‘Beyond the Wheel,’ a track from its 1988 debut album ‘Ultramega OK.’

The Daily Swarm, citing “multiple industry sources,” tonight reports Soundgarden — reforming after 12 years apart — will headline this summer’s Lollapalooza alongside Green Day and Lady Gaga.
