Video: Dinosaur Jr plays with members of The Smiths, Pixies, Sonic Youth, Replacements

Last night at New York City’s Terminal 5, the reunited Dinosaur Jr celebrated the 25th anniversary of You’re Living All Over Me by playing the 1987 album in its entirety and then enlisting members of The Smiths, Pixies, Sonic Youth, The Replacements and The Melvins to help blast through a second, career-spanning set.

Dinosaur Jr frontman/guitar butcher J Mascis isn’t known as the most talkative man in rock, so it’s a rare treat to see he’s guesting on today’s episode of “WTF,” the Marc Maron-hosted podcast that has nicely expanded from its comedians-talking-about-comedy roots to include the occasional musical guest.

The reunited Dinosaur Jr will celebrate the 25th anniversary of ‘You’re Living All Over Me’ this December with a concert in New York City that will feature a meeting of the six-string minds, with legendary Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr set to trade licks with J Mascis on “a song or two,” according to the band’s website.

Dinosaur Jr to release 1987 live set on ‘Chocomel Daze’ limited-edition vinyl LP

Dinosaur Jr will follow up its just-released studio album I Bet On Sky with a limited-edition live album recorded in 1987 and released as a vinyl-and-download combo, according to listings at online retailers. The Chocomel Daze LP will be released Nov. 19 by Merge Records on 150-gram vinyl and limited to 2,000 copies.

Dinosaur Jr’s third post-reunion album, and 10th full-length effort overall, ‘I Bet On Sky,’ is due out in less than 10 days now, but, starting Sunday night, the band is streaming the full 10-track album via NPR Music. The reunited band recorded the album earlier this year, and it follows 2007′s ‘Beyond’ and 2009′s ‘Farm.’

With the release of Dinosaur Jr’s third post-reunion album, ‘I Bet On Sky,’ growing closer, the band this week premiered a music video for first single “Watch the Corners” over at Funny Or Die —presumably because it stars comedian Tim Heidecker, even though it’s not particularly funny. But there is creative use of digital blurring.
