The year of The Jam’s birth — 1977, the year punk broke — will be celebrated this fall with a 40th anniversary 5-disc box set, aptly titled 1977, that will include the band’s first two albums, a disc of demos, a collection of Peel session recordings and live tracks, and a DVD of TV appearances. This week’s new releases include a second batch of 180-gram audiophile vinyl Depeche Mode reissues, plus an 11-disc box set from The Stranglers, an expanded reissue of Aztec Camera’s debut ‘High Land, Hard Rain,’ and heavyweight vinyl reissues of all six albums by The Jam.

Paul Weller — who will release ‘Sonik Kicks,’ featuring appearances by Noel Gallagher and Graham Coxon in March — this morning announced a two-night stand at the Best Buy Theater in New York City this May, which is being billed as the rocker’s only North American appearance of 2012.
