Beck’s back with track 6 — ‘The Loved One,’ a cover of an old ’60s tune by Australian band The Loved Ones — in his Record Club’s ongoing full-album cover of INXS’ 1987 hit ‘Kick.’
The latest weekly installment in Beck’s Record Club’s full-album cover of INXS 1987 smash ‘Kick’ is a bit late, but here it is nonetheless: ‘Mediate,’ the sorta spoken-word thing that’s appended to ‘Need You Tonight’ on the album and in the band’s hit music video.
It’s week four of Beck’s Record Club’s full-album cover of the INXS smash ‘Kick,’ which means it’s time for the disc’s monster hit: ‘Need You Tonight.’ For this cut, Beck and his cohorts — St. Vincent, Liars and Os Mutantes — give the No. 1 hit a dark, slinky makeover, relying mainly on bass and live electronic percussion, and only touching on the song’s signature guitar riff briefly.
It’s time once again to check in with Beck’s online Record Club, which today posted the third track from its cover of INXS’ 1987 album ‘Kick’: ‘Devil Inside,’ the album’s second smash single.
Beck and his Record Club crew, featuring members of St. Vincent, Liars and Os Mutantes, cover ‘New Sensation,’ the second track off INXS’ 1987 blockbuster ‘Kick.’ The ad-hoc group gives the hit single a dreamy, acoustic makeover, complete with violin and vocals from St. Vincent’s Annie Clark and Liars’ Angus Andrew.
The ever-quirky Beck today revealed the fourth album to be covered — and the first foray into the ’80s — by his online project Record Club: the 1987 smash ‘Kick’ by INXS, which he’ll perform track-by-track with St. Vincent, Liars and Brazilian legends Os Mutantes.
