This week’s new releases include brand-new albums from Johnny Marr (‘The Messenger’), KMFDM (‘Kunst’) and John Foxx (‘Evidence’), plus reissues from Fine Young Cannibals, The Blue Aeroplanes and The Sound, as well as best-ofs from Kirsty MacColl and The Human League.

This Christmas marks the 25th anniversary of the boozy holiday classic “Fairytale of New York” by The Pogues and the late Kirsty MacColl, so, to mark the occasion, the band is reissuing the 1987 single in a variety of digital and vinyl formats with new cover art.

This week’s new release include the CD debut of “Athens, GA – Inside/Out,” paired with a DVD, plus Clan of Xymox’s cover album “Kindred Spirits,” featuring their take on The Cure, Depeche Mode and more, as well as three Kirsty MacColl reissues and an audiophile vinyl pressing of R.E.M.’s ‘Document.’

Last night, a host of musicians — including Alison Moyet and Billy Bragg — gathered at London’s O2 Sheperd’s Bush Empire to remember the life and musical legacy of Kirsty MacColl on what would have been the late singer’s 51st birthday.

The life and musical legacy of Kirsty MacColl will be celebrated this fall at an all-star concert in London featuring the likes of Alison Moyet, Billy Bragg, Johnny Marr and Shane MacGowan, who famously duetted with the late singer on the Pogues’ classic ‘Fairytale of New York.’
