For this week’s “120 Minutes” Rewind, we present a series of clips of what host Dave Kendall announces as “the first-ever international edition of ‘120 Minutes,'” broadcast in August 1991 from England’s Reading Festival. As they near the end of their summer run of European festivals, The Cure tonight plays the U.K.’s venerable Reading Festival — exactly 33 years to the day since Robert Smith and Co. last played the festival. To mark the occasion, we present this vintage tape of The Cure’s 1979 set at Reading.

The Cure was announced today as one of the headliners of the U.K.’s massive Reading and Leeds festivals in late August, bringing the band’s total number of European summer festival appearances to 18. The band’s summer touring schedule now opens May 26 at Pinkpop and runs through Sept. 1 at Electric Picnic.

The Charlatans will follow up last year’s double-disc re-release of debut album ‘Some Friendly’ this spring with an expanded reissue of 1999’s ‘Us and Only Us,’ supplementing the record’s original 11 tracks with 19 bonus B-sides, remixes, radio sessions and live tracks.
