R.E.M. will mark the 25th anniversary of their third album, ‘Fables of the Reconstruction,’ this summer with the third installment in the band’s ongoing reissue series, a double-disc re-release featuring 14 previously unreleased demos — including one never-before-heard song.

R.E.M. next month will give fans a preview of its forthcoming 2CD Live at the Olympia with a digital EP called Reckoning Songs From the Olympia that collects four songs from the just-reissued Reckoning that the band performed during its 2007 “Dublin Working Rehearsals.”

R.E.M. has set a June 23 release date for its Reckoning: Deluxe Edition, previously reported on here. According to the band’s press release, the second disc will include a concert recorded July 7, 1984, at Chicago’s Aragon Ballroom, featuring live performances of eight of Reckoning’s 10 songs, plus “Gardening at Night” from the Chronic Town [...]

With touring and promotion of 2008’s Accelerate now finished, R.E.M. this year will issue, at a minimum, a pair of archival releases, hitting both ends of its long and fruitful career.
