The Japanese Popstars next week will release a 12-inch with remixes of ‘Take Forever,’ the track they recorded with Robert Smith on vocals — and thanks to the fine folks over at Astralwerks, one Slicing Up Eyeballs reader can win that plus a signed copy of the group’s remix 12-inch with an exclusive Depeche Mode mix.

Cassettes Won’t Listen is no stranger to ’80s alternative fare, having covered, in recent years, The Cure’s ‘Let’s Go to Bed’ and INXS’s ‘Need You Tonight. Now comes a brand-new cover of Duran Duran’s early ’90s comeback smash, ‘Ordinary World.’

Robert Smith’s not happy with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, slamming the organization online for not mentioning his just-nominated band’s current drummer in its bio of the group, writing, ‘Jason Cooper is The Cure’s drummer — and it sickens me that he doesn’t get a name check… bah!’

The Cure announced today that it will reprise its ‘Reflections’ concerts seven more times this November, and will perform their first three albums — 1979′s ‘Three Imaginary Boys,’ 1980′s ‘Seventeen Seconds’ and 1981′s ‘Faith’ — in New York, Los Angeles and London.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this morning announced the nominees for its Class of 2012, a list that includes goth-pop legends The Cure as well as fellow first-time nominees Guns N’ Roses, Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, and Eric B. and Rakim, plus past nominees Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beastie Boys and more.

Next month, The Japanese Popstars will release a digital “remix bundle” of their single ‘Take Forever’ — featuring Robert Smith of The Cure on lead vocals — featuring four different mixes of the song, including a slowed-down, dream-like contribution from Smith himself

Welcome to Slicing Up Eyeballs’ new weekly feature: the Week in Rock, which, as its name implies, rounds up all of the headlines posted on this site over the past, uh, week. Basically, it’s one-stop shopping for any readers who might have been too busy during the week to keep tabs on all the headlines.

The Cure headlined the U.K.’s Bestival tonight, delivering a 32-song set filled with hits and a few lesser-aired tracks — including the first performance of ‘The Caterpillar’ in 20 years — with a lineup that included the return of keyboardist Roger O’Donnell, who says he’s back in the band for the third time.

Although he’s become an in-demand guest vocalist, Robert Smith says in a new interview that he’s refocusing on The Cure and vows he won’t do another collaboration until he completes the long-promised second half of 2008′s ‘4.13 Dream’ — the so-called ‘Dark Album’ that he once suggested could land in spring 2009.
