The 2006 best-of celebrating Manchester supergroup Electronic — featuring New Order’s Bernard Sumner and Johnny Marr of The Smiths — will be reissued next month.

This week sees the release of box sets by Depeche Mode, David Sylvian, Ultravox and Fun Boy 3, a new Jesus and Mary Chain live album, and The Smiths vinyl reissues.

Johnny Marr sat in with the Pretenders for part of their set at Glastonbury on Saturday, with Dave Grohl joining as well on “Tattooed Love Boys.”

Andy Rourke, the bassist for The Smiths, has died of pancreatic cancer, his former bandmate and childhood friend Johnny Marr announced overnight.

The death over the weekend of legendary record man Seymour Stein has unleashed a torrent of heartfelt appreciations from the musicians he championed.

Morrissey, for some reason, posted an open letter to Johnny Marr on his website today imploring his former Smiths bandmate to stop mentioning his name in interviews.

On June 2, 1991 — the third night of Morrissey’s first-ever solo tour of the U.S. — David Bowie joined the former Smiths frontman onstage in Los Angeles to duet on a cover of T. Rex’s “Cosmic Dancer.” Now, nearly 30 years later, Morrissey is finally giving that recording an official release, first digitally and then 7-inch vinyl.

Wayne Hussey has enlisted current and former members of The Cure, Depeche Mode, The Cult, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bauhaus and The Smiths for an all-star remake of The Mission’s 1988 anthem “Tower of Strength” to benefit “key workers dealing with COVID-19 globally.” Full details right here.
