Morrissey to release vinyl box sets of solo singles spanning 1988 to 1995

Morrissey, 'The 7" Singles '88-'91'

Morrissey will release a pair of new limited-edition box sets this fall collecting reissued 7-inch singles spanning his initial solo foray in 1988 through his post-Vauxhall and I recordings in 1995.

The 10-record The 7″ Singles ’88-’91 and the 9-record The HMV/Parlophone Singles ’91-’95 will be released Oct. 12 and Nov. 2, respectively, according to reports today from fan site Morrissey-solo.com and the NME. The box sets — basically vinyl editions of two CD collections released in 2000, but with fewer songs — follow the recent 7″ and CD versions of The Smiths’ Singles Box, all of which seems to beg for yet another airing of Moz’s own “Paint a Vulgar Picture” lyrics. But that joke isn’t funny anymore.

The ’88-’91 set features Morrissey’s two Viva Hate singles (solo debut “Suedehead” and “Everyday is Like Sunday”), the four classic non-album singles he issued in 1989 and 1990 (“The Last of the Famous International Playboys,” “Interesting Drug,” “Ouija Board, Ouija Board” and “November Spawned a Monster,” arguably his finest period as a solo artist), plus tracks from Kill Uncle and the non-album release “Pregnant for the Last Time.”

The ’91-’95 box picks up with the non-album “My Love Life,” then runs through singles from Your Arsenal and Vauxhall and I, although it omits “Tomorrow,” one of the singer’s more successful U.S. singles. Also included is “Interlude,” Moz’s duet with Siouxsie Sioux.
