Skinny Puppy to tour U.S. this fall, cEvin Key and Ogre say new album in the works

Skinny Puppy

Groundbreaking electro-industrial act Skinny Puppy this week unveiled a 30-date fall tour of the U.S. as it works on a follow-up to 2007’s Mythmaker, the band’s second post-reunion album.

Skinny Puppy’s In Solvent See Tour 2009 opens Oct. 30 in Pomona, Calif., and, after a trek around the country, and into Canada, wraps Dec. 10 in Los Angeles. The band already has launched special presales for its online fan community.

Although they haven’t announced a release date for Skinny Puppy’s forthcoming album, cEvin Key and Ogre — who first reunited on-stage in 2000 and then in the band’s current incarnation in 2003 — have discussed their next full-length in various interviews.

In a Q&A earlier this year with Elektron Music Machines, Key said Skinny Puppy’s new music is reminiscent of its 1984 debut:

“We’ve actually been using methods and techniques similar to those we used when we made Remission, our first record. The new album will contain a lot of crunch and a lot of rhythms that don’t sound so much like those on Mythmaker, our previous album. Everything will be more mechanical and 12-bit sounding.”

Back in April, Ogre told fan site Litany.net that Skinny Puppy was “moving towards a late Oct. 2009 release and tour.” Obviously the latter part of that has been announced, so it’s probably safe to say the record will come out in conjunction with the trek.
