Slicing Up Eyeballs marks second anniversary

Slicing Up Eyeballs

Hey, what do you know: Turns out exactly two years have passed since Slicing Up Eyeballs: The Legacy of ’80s College Rock launched, and here we are — 1,276 posts and 1.7 million pageviews later — still chugging along, posting news items on tours, new CDs and reissues, plus offering video and MP3 downloads.

Two years into this, the site still really is just a labor of love — I figured I’d write about some music I like and see if people were interested. And not only have folks been really into it, but it’s gotten much bigger than I ever expected, with a weekly show on Strangeways Radio, the first Slicing Up Eyeballs Presents concert in New York City and the opportunity to interview people like Peter Hook and Daniel Ash.

I’d like to personally thank everybody who stops by each day, subscribes to the e-mail or RSS feeds, follows us on Twitter or is a fan on Facebook. Sustained by a small bit of advertising revenue, this site is a one-man operation and, for the time being, is likely to remain that way — so all of your support and appreciation is greatly appreciated.

If you are a fan of what we’re doing here, there are ways you can help spread the word:

  • Go “like” us on Facebook and suggest our page to your friends; the “suggest to friends” button has moved to the upper right-hand side of the page.
  • If you’re on Twitter, follow us there, too. Retweet the good stuff.
  • If you tumble, we’re also on Tumblr. Reblogging is fun.
  • Get some free Slicing Up Eyeballs stickers and put ’em on things. Here’s how.
  • Or just tell every single person you know about the site. Even your mom.

With that out of the way, let’s take a quick look back at two years of Slicing Up Eyeballs. Below you’ll find the 10 most-viewed stories ever on this site, topped, not surprisingly, by The Cure, and with strong showings by Depeche Mode, Pixies and The Smiths.
