The Cars debut video clip of ‘Blue Tip,’ first new song since 1987, on Facebook

The surviving members of The Cars revealed their reunion this past summer by simply posting a photo of the band in the studio on Facebook; now they follow that up with the first musical proof they’re back together for the first time in 23 years: a 1:13-long video clip of the new song “Blue Tip.”

The song, accompanied by black-and-white video of the band performing in the studio, was posted on the Cars’ Facebook page on Wednesday, with a simple one-line description: “BLUE TIP… preview.” The Ric Ocasek-sung track — featuring the band’s distinctive synth-heavy vibe — is the first new Cars song since 1987’s Door to Door.

The band — Ocasek, guitarist Elliot Easton, long-retired drummer David Robinson and keyboardist Greg Hawkes, who also is filling in on bass for the late Benjamin Orr, who died of cancer in 2000 — has not formally announced its reunion or any plans for a new album. However, since posting that initial band photo, the Cars have posted several more studio shots, including the picture of Ocasek featured above.
