Pixies’ Black Francis unveils solo-acoustic tour, new album with Reid Paley

Before taking the Pixies back out on the road this fall for more Doolittle dates, frontman Black Francis will embark on a short solo-acoustic tour of his own — beginning tonight — and he’ll follow that up in September with a brand-new studio album he recorded as a duo with singer-songwriter Reid Paley.

The 10-track album, simply titled Paley & Francis, is due Sept. 13 on Sonic Unyon Records and was recorded in two days last September in Nashville, Tenn., between Pixies gigs and is entirely comprised of first takes. The record, which finds Francis and Paley each singing the songs they wrote, also features legendary Muscle Shoals players David Hood on bass and Spooner Oldham on piano.

Before that comes out, though, Francis embarks on one of his period solo-acoustic tours, beginning tonight in Boise, Idaho, and continuing for eight more dates before wrapping up July 28 in Wellfleet, Mass. Paley will open the final two shows of that trek, and then the two are slated to perform together at the Supercrawl Festival in Ontario on Sept. 10.
