The Wedding Present to release new album in March, bring ‘Seamonsters’ tour to U.S.

Brit indie-rockers The Wedding Present plan to release their eighth studio album in March, frontman David Gedge announced Tuesday, then embark on a 14-date North American tour that will see the band performing those new songs in addition to playing 1991’s Seamonsters in its entirety as part of that record’s 21st anniversary.

Set for March and April, the North American tour — which will follow a scheduled appearance at the South By Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas — is the first leg in a yearlong celebration of the Steve Albini-produced Seamonsters. According to Gedge’s website, the Weddoes will take the Seamonsters tour to Australia and Japan in April, continental Europe in September and October, and the U.K. and Ireland in October and November.

The trek follows last year’s similar 21st anniversary Bizarro tour, which itself came after a 2007 trek marking the 20th anniversary of the band’s debut, George Best.

As for the new album, Gedge and Co. began recording tracks last August in France, and are expected to resume in Los Angeles. The band also is slated to perform a run of year-end shows in the U.K., leading up to a New Year’s Eve gig in London.
