Dreams So Real — featured in ‘Athens, GA: Inside/Out’ — reunites, streams demo

Athens, Ga.-based rockers Dreams So Real — featured in the landmark rock doc “Athens, GA: Inside/Out” and whose debut single and album were produced by R.E.M.’s Peter Buck — are reuniting for a pair of rare concerts next month, and are whetting fans’ appetites by streaming a previously unreleased early-’90s demo.

Trio will reunite for the second time in a decade — the group last performed, in its hometown, in 2009 — to to play April 27 in Athens in conjunction with the Athens Twilight Criterium bike race and on April 28 in Atlanta, the band’s first performance there in nearly 15 years and the first with all three original members in nearly 20 years.

Over the weekend, the band also posted a demo of an unreleased song called “Jingle-Jangle Man” that was recorded on an 8-track reel-to-reel sometime after the release of their final studio album, and second for Arista Records, 1990’s Gloryline.

Outside of its performance of “Golden” in “Athens, GA: Inside/Out,” Dreams So Real was perhaps best known for its Buck-produced debut single “Everywhere Girl,” which received college radio airplay, and the title track to its major-label debut, Rough Night In Jericho, which racked the Billboard charts and received MTV airplay.

Below, stream “Jingle-Jangle Man” and see Dreams So Real in “Athens, GA: Inside/Out.”

  1. I remember their “Rough Night in Jerico” album being pretty cool – forgot that P Buck was on that – Blast from the past!

  2. Jingle-Jangle Man sure has a lot of tom Petty’s Heartbreakers sound in it – especially the guitar fills and keyboards.
