Danny Elfman to sing publicly for first time since Oingo Boingo’s 1995 farewell

Oscar-nominated film composer Danny Elfman will take the stage at London’s Royal Albert Hall this October for a cinematic career overview entitled “Danny Elfman’s Music From the Films of Tim Burton” that will find him doing something he hasn’t done since Oingo Boingo’s farewell concert on Halloween night 1995: singing in public.

According to U.K. newspaper The Telegraph, the Oct. 7 concert — which Elfman is staging in conjunction with Burton — will feature the BBC Concert Orchestra performing music from films such as “Edward Scissorhands,” “Batman” and “Beetlejuice,” with the former Boingo frontman singing in public for the first time in 18 years on some of the songs.

The paper quotes Elfman as saying, “The idea of performing some of Jack Skellington’s songs from ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ live for the very first time is immensely exciting.”

Additionally, Burton’s original drawings and production artwork will be used to create visual backdrops for the performance. Burton promises the concert will be “something really special.”

  1. I REALLY hope that they make a high production DVD/Bluray of this performance!

  2. I was at their last show on Halloween in ’95 at Universal Amphitheater. Epic. I really, really miss seeing Oingo Boingo live – they were amazing. One of the most underrated bands of all time.

  3. Saw O.B. perform at a street festival in downtown Greensboro, N.C. in 1984; so much fun and good energy!!…Blessed to still have Mr. Elfman’s energy in so many great soundtracks! I agree with Jason – very underrated!

  4. Is this the sort of show that gets recorded for commercial release? I HAVE to see this!! Crazy timing – I’ve been cranking Boingo all week and trying to get my co-workers into them.

  5. I must go to this! I love both Danny Elfman and Tim Burton so much.

  6. I attended many of their concerts during the 80’s in Utah, awesome concerns, sometimes twice a year. Still my favorite band of all time.

  7. I saw Danny Elfman speak at San Diego Comic-Con a few years ago and he said that a Boingo reunion will never happen because his hearing had been damaged from years of being exposed to loud music and doctors had warned him that performing live again could cause him to go deaf. He said that his hearing was too important to him and thus it would never happen. I know it’s not the same as a rock concert, but I’m curious what convinced him to perform again when he so clearly stated it would never happen again?

  8. Why in London????? L.A. Please!!!!!! I miss Oingo Boingo live so much, I would love to see the band but Danny doing the movie songs will be a whole different show of amazing-ness.

  9. Oingo Boingo is simply amazing… Soundtrack of my youth… Thanx them…

  10. Saw Oingo and Dizzy Gillespie at the same 1984 street festival in Greensboro Nc as did Bonnie. Interesting exposure to culture for the Tarheel state back in the day. I spent 89-01 in Portland and Seattle. No regrets but for those shows I missed. Kill the TV…Go see live music!!!
