Stream: Prefab Sprout, ‘The Best Jewel Thief In The World’ — first single off ‘Crimson/Red’

Prefab Sprout

The reclusive and now very much bearded Paddy McAloon returns next month with a brand-new Prefab Sprout album entitled Crimson/Red, and BBC 6 Music listeners recently got to hear the first single, “The Best Jewel Thief in the World,” when it was premiered on the “Radcliffe and Maconie” show. Check out the lush album opener below.

The 10-track Crimson/Red is due out Oct. 7 in the U.K., and it’s the sophistipop act’s first since the 2009 release of Let’s Change the World With Music, a collection that actually had been mostly recorded in the early ’90s as an aborted follow-up to Jordan: The Comeback. So it’s really the first new Prefab Sprout music since The Gunman and Other Stories in 2001.

  1. Man! off the charts excited! Right up there with TFF for me. Terrific to see Paddy return since I was concerned we would not see him again if at all.

  2. btw, he’s been bearded for quite some time now, long before his last album.

  3. Good track, the police sirens had me looking out of the window to see what was going on out there.

  4. Really good track…. the sirens did throw me at first….. but a bit lightweight… and thought I heard Martin Frey at first.. oops…

  5. Really nice – their music is timeless
