Peter Murphy adds David Bowie tribute show to upcoming San Francisco residency

Peter Murphy will cap off his highly anticipated two-week San Francisco residency with a just-announced final show that’ll see the former Bauhaus frontman paying tribute to the late David Bowie by performing a selection of songs from the Thin White Duke’s legendary catalog.

The residency at The Chapel now runs March 5 through 26, with 16 shows over 13 nights. Murphy will perform many of his solo albums in full across the run — see full dates and details below — and will play three “Mr. Moonlight” shows of Bauhaus material with ex-bandmate David J, with whom he’s now touring.

The Bowie tribute closes the run on March 26; tickets go on sale at 2 p.m. PST today via Ticketfly.

In a statement announcing his tribute to the Starman, Murphy — who, with Bauhaus, famously covered “Ziggy Stardust” decades ago — says: “Now that all and sundry have fallen off the David Bowie tribute bandwagon, I thought I’d do my own.”

The road leading to Murphy’s San Francisco stand has been a rocky one; the residency’s shows were first scheduled for the summer of 2017, but had to be bumped to early 2018 after issues arose with the singer’s vocal chords that forced him call off the run. Those rescheduled dates were then pushed to summer 2018 as visa troubles kept Murphy from entering the country. The re-rescheduled summer dates ultimately were pushed to March 2019 for the same reason.

But Murphy, who lives in Turkey, finally did obtain a U.S. visa, and has been on the road with David J since last month with the Ruby Tour celebrating 40 years of Bauhaus. The former bandmates are performing their debut In the Flat Field in its entirety each night; that run of dates continues through the end of this month.

Hi, due to overwhelming demand, the Montreal show (Feb. 16) has been moved to MTelus which is much bigger than the Corona.

  2. El Arreglardo

If he comes anywhere near, check out the show. Highly entertaining. He still has it!

  3. Scott R Stalcup

Hasn’t Pete’s whole career BEEN a Bowie tribute? Don’t think I would like him if it weren’t.

  4. Thanks for the tip!

I have a ticket to the Montreal show, says corona on it. Do you have any info if I need to update it for the MTelis?

  5. Murphy insulted Bowie after he died. He’s a wanker. Avoid!
