  1. A few words about listener requests, since I’ve had a few questions recently about how they’re handled.

I love getting them, and I encourage you to make them. But at the same time, I do not promise I’m going to play something just because it’s been requested. There are no guarantees here. And sometimes a request will get slotted in for a later show; they’re not necessarily all going to be played the following week.

The main reason a request doesn’t get played is if the song doesn’t fit the format of this show, and there are many requests that don’t. “Dark Wave” airs on Sirius XM’s ’80s alternative channel, so it’s going to be rooted in bands from that era (although unlike normal 1stWave playlists, I’m open to newer music by those old bands). I tend to stick to bands of the goth, post-punk and industrial strain with roots in the ’80s, though I will stray into the late ’70s and early ’90s. And, frankly, will sometimes make other exceptions if the mood strikes.

One thing I don’t play are bands from the 2000s with no connection to the 1stWave era. Nothing against that music, it just don’t fit the show’s format or the channel’s format.

Hope that clarifies things a bit.

    Thanks!

    — Matt Sebastian
