This week’s new releases include brand-new studio albums from The Mission, Elvis Costello and The Roots, Sebadoh and Berlin, plus a live DVD/Blu-ray release from Peter Gabriel, a 1992 live album from The Wedding Present and an audiophile vinyl pressing of The Sisters of Mercy’s ‘Floodland.’

Sebadoh hit the road earlier this month for a handful of dates in the western U.S. to tease next months’ release of Defend Yourself, the band’s first new album in 14 years. While they were in Seattle, the band — Lou Barlow, Jason Loewenstein and Bob D’Amico — stopped by KEXP for an in-studio performance.

Sebadoh to release ‘Defend Yourself’ — first new album in 14 years — this September

Sebadoh today announced plans to release its first new album in 14 years this September, a record titled Defend Yourself that follows up last year’s comeback Secret EP and that new label Joyful Noise Recordings claims “marks a return to the self-recorded DIY ethos of early Sebadoh albums (Bakesale, Sebadoh III).”

Following its purple-tape reissue of 1988′s ‘Bug’ this past summer, Dinosaur Jr now will pair that album with cassette reissues of its first two records — 1985′s ‘Dinosaur’ and 1987′s ‘You’re Living All Over Me’ — in a limited-edition, wooden box set.

Following this summer’s cassette-only reissue of ‘Bug,’ the reunited Dinosaur Jr this fall will re-release that 1988 album along with the band’s first two records — 1985’s ‘Dinosaur’ and 1987’s ‘You’re Living All Over Me’ — on vinyl this fall, the trio’s current label, Jagjaguwar, announced this week.
