Premiere: The Chills, ‘Somewhere Beautiful’ — stream indie-pop legends’ new live album

The Chills this week christen their new “special ongoing partnership” with Fire Records with their first release on the label: a gorgeous live album called Somewhere Beautiful that was recorded on New Year’s Eve 2011 and is being released this week on CD, digitally and as a deluxe 3LP vinyl pressing.

The Chills to release triple LP live set ‘Somewhere Beautiful’ this fall

Earlier this summer, Fire Records announced a “special ongoing partnership” with New Zealand indie-pop legends The Chills, and quickly followed that up with the release of the band’s first new song in nine years, “Molten Gold.” Now comes the first release of the new partnership: a triple LP live album.

Last week, Fire Records announced a “special ongoing partnership” with New Zealand indie-pop legends The Chills that it headlined “The Past, The Present, The Future.” Now, as bandleader Martin Phillipps celebrates his 50th birthday this week, the label has premiered the band’s first new music in nine years: “Molten Gold.”

The Chills to play 30th anniversary concert in New Zealand, release special live album

New Zealand alt-pop act The Chills will celebrate its 30th anniversary later this month with a concert at the site of the band’s Nov. 15, 1980, live debut — plus, the group plans to release a live album with two “rudimentary” recordings from that first concert.
