Vintage Video: Kathryn Bigelow’s video for New Order’s ‘Touched By the Hand of God’
It’s no secret that Kathryn Bigelow — who last night became the first woman to win the Academy Award for best director — didn’t always helm Oscar-quality fare (we’re looking at you, “Point Break”) prior to “The Hurt Locker.” But in addition to some early-career cheese, she’s also got a New Order video on her IMDB credits: the 1987 clip for “Touched By the Hand of God,” shown above, in which she dressed Bernard Sumner and Co. up as a hair-metal band. And if you watch closely, that’s supposedly Bill Paxton and Rae Dawn Chong in the car-smashing/makeout scene.
