Malcolm McLaren, Sex Pistols manager and punk-rock impresario, 1946-2010

News is spreading across the web this afternoon about the death of Malcolm McLaren, the legendary Sex Pistols manager/creator who famously claimed to have invented punk rock. According to the New York Times, McLaren, 64, died today of mesothelioma at a hospital in Switzerland. He’s remembered, of course, not just for his role in the punk revolution, but also for his own music, including 1983’s highly influential Duck Rock, which, with the help of the hit single “Buffalo Gals” (shown above), helped introduce hip-hop to mainstream pop audiences. R.I.P.
