Modern English recording new album, playing handful of U.S., U.K. dates this summer

Reunited post-punk/New Wave rockers Modern English — who are expected to release their eighth studio album sometime later this year — will perform a short, 7-date run of concerts on the West Coast of the U.S. next month, followed by a five-date tour of the band’s native U.K. in early September.

The group — original members Robbie Grey (vocals), Gary McDowell (guitar), Mick Conroy (bass) and Stephen Walker (keyboards), plus guitarist Steven Walker and drummer Ric Chandler — will play six concerts in California and one in Oregon between July 12 and 21, and then will head to the U.K. for a small run of dates from Sept. 5 through 9.

Modern English also has been recording a new album due out sometime this year; it will be the first featuring the band’s original members since 1996′s Everything’s Mad. In 2010, Grey released a Modern English record called Soundtrack, then reconvened the band shortly thereafter for sporadic touring ever since.
