Simple Minds prepping 2CD live album culled from this year’s ‘5×5 Live’ tour

Simple Minds are putting the finishing touches on a double-CD live album culled from this year’s “5×5 Live” tour of Europe, which found the band each night performing five songs off of each of its first five albums — Life In A Day, Real To Real Cacophony, Empires and Dance, Sons and Fascination/Sister Feelings Calling and New Gold Dream (81, 82, 83, 84), which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.

The band has yet to unveil full details of the project, but Jim Kerr did mention it on the group’s Facebook page this week, writing:

LIVE RECORDINGS 5×5:
Spent last night listening to GG’s final mixes, what a fine job he did. Anyone who liked the 5×5 shows is bound to appreciate this soon to be released collection. For those who could catch not the shows, this collection taken from various shows in a handful of cities will let you hear what went on. Hope you like it.

A listing on Germany’s Amazon.de shows a 2CD album called 5×5 Live Ltd. due out Nov. 19.

  1. Another live release? Sorry – unless they bring back Mike or Derek or the other bassists, its not worth it. I love SM but they are lacking live without the original members. That was proven by XSM and the other Forbes projects.

    • Don’t whine. It’s good music and certainly much better than anything you hear on the radio these days. Few bands last as long as Simple Minds have. It’ll surely be a great live album and way overdue (since 1987!).

    • Mick and Derek left over 20 year ago. Time to get over it. XSM isn’t that great anyway.

  2. Brilliant wheres the DVD

  3. Can’t wait. Can’t wait. Can’t wait.
