The Cure, New Order return to North America this summer for Montreal’s Osheaga Festival

The Cure circa 2013

The Cure and New Order each will return to North America this summer, as both bands were announced this week as headliners at Montreal’s three-day Osheaga Festival Musique et Arts in early August — a billing that will put the two legendary acts just hours away from Chicago the same weekend that city hosts the Lollapalooza festival.

It’s not yet known which days either band will play at the Aug. 2-4 festival in Montreal, and Lollapalooza has not yet unveiled its 2013 lineup. New Order may be less likely to be on the latter bill, since that band is playing Coachella next month, in addition to a pair of additional concerts in Las Vegas and Santa Barbara, Calif. But New Order has indicated more U.S. concerts are due later this year.

As for The Cure, the Osheaga headlining slot is the band’s first confirmed North American appearance of 2013. The band played European festivals all last summer, and is headed to Latin America in April. On the band’s official site, news of the Montreal appearance is headlined “Another show… more to come…”

Tickets for the Montreal festival go on sale at noon Friday.

  3. Yeah, c’mon eyeballs, didn’t you know the previously African country of Canada has since become an EU member nation? Jeez, next you’ll be making disparaging remarks about our Antarctic brethren, the Japanese.

  4. People make mistakes, no need to call them out and embarress them, epic fail eyeballs. Dick.

  5. Dear NO: Please remember Seattle.

  6. Still waiting for 2008’s promised “dark album.” Plus with Porl out and O’Donnell in, this is going to be a limp live show in comparison. Not a huge fan of Reeves though some will surely find him an adequate prosthesis.
