The Stranglers reissuing ‘The Old Testament’ box set with added disc of rarities

The Stranglers

Later this month, EMI Music will reissue The Stranglers’ 1992 box set The Old Testament: The U.A. Studio Recordings (1977-1982), which collects the punk legends’ first six albums plus bonus singles and B-sides on four CDs, and now includes a brand-new fifth disc of rarities including live tracks, radio edits and remixes.

Due out May 27 in the U.K., the 5CD set includes the albums Rattus Norvegicus (1977), No More Heroes (1977), Black and White (1978), The Raven (1979), The Gospel According To The Meninblack (1981) and La Folie (1981), plus the aforementioned 15-track bonus disc. No word yet if the music is newly remastered. Full tracklist is posted below.

The set currently is available for pre-order on Amazon.co.uk for just £11.99, which is about $18.60 — or just $3.72 per disc.

This will be a great deal for a fantastic box set if it ISN’T remastered. The mastering on the original cds and box sounded the best they ever have on cd. The last batch of remasters were loud, shrill, and brickwalled.
