Mick Karn ‘Birthday Download Day’ to honor late Japan and Dalis Car bassist, support family

Dalis Car

Peter Murphy and the Burning Shed label are honoring late Japan and Dalis Car bassist Mick Karn on what would have been his 55th birthday Wednesday with a “Download Day,” urging fans to buy Karn’s music in tribute to musician and to show that there is demand for it as a way of keeping his CDs in print. Karn succumbed to cancer in 2011.

Furthermore, Peter Murphy has signed 100 copies of the Dalis Car InGladAloneness EP, which was released last year and recorded during Karn’s final months. Proceeds from the sale of that CD will go to the Mick Karn Appeal to support his family.

Full details can be found on the event’s Facebook page:

Mick Karn’s Birthday Download Day will begin at Midnight, Nicosia, Cyprus time on 24th July 2013.

Team Mick Karn in conjuntion with Burning Shed, an ethical company run by artists for artists, invite you to download his music from www.burningshed.com on that special day as a clear message of love and eternal appreciation.

Downloads are limitless but stocks of Mick’s cds are low. If they run out there are currently no more and no plans to rerelease. This is shocking and the case for many of our artists and it must not come to pass that these records go out of print.

We hope that by this show of love a demand will be created and more cds made available through Burning Shed. This way Mick’s work would be given the fair remuneration it deserves and fans can have the music they love.

Mick’s amazing book, “Japan and Self Existence” can be purchased direct from www.lulu.com where again more money goes direct to the artists.

Peter Murphy is supporting the event and has signed 100 Dalis Car Ingladaloneness cds and they will be available from tonight, the 22nd July on a “first-to-order” basis, one per person.

Mick’s friends and family are with us and the love for Mick is palpable. We want to do all we can in the spirit of love and gratitude that we feel for this unique artist taken from the world far too soon.

See you on 24th July xxx Keep Karn and Carry On xxx

  1. It’s really amazing what Peter has done for Mick’s widow throughout the last year. Just finished listening to Tin Drum by Japan in honor of him, hard to find a finer bass performance by an artist of this or any other genre than the one he displays on Visions Of China. Many others to be sure, but that one was always a personal favorite and showcased his incredible, self taught talents. RIP

  2. Thanks for sharing but posted too late to purchase the signed CD…now sold out…

  3. Thanks so much for supporting the event this year, hope you will be at the next one on 24th July 2014.
