The Cure to headline Riot Fest in Toronto, Chicago and Denver this September

The Cure

The Cure’s penchant for topping festival bills continues as Robert Smith and Co. were announced this evening as the headliners of all three Riot Fests — set for Toronto, Chicago and Denver this September — joining the band’s appearance at Bottle Rock in Napa Valley, Calif., this month as the group’s only U.S. dates announced so far this year.

This year’s booking of The Cure follows the debut of The Replacements’ reunion at last year’s Riot Fests.

For this year’s festival, The Cure this evening were added to the previously announced Toronto bill — Sept. 6-7, and also featuring Paul Weller, Social Distortion, Bob Mould, Buzzcocks, Thurston Moore, The Afghan Whigs and more — while the lineups in Chicago (Sept. 12-14) and Denver (Sept. 19-21) were newly announced tonight. Tickets are on sale now.

The Chicago fest also features Jane’s Addiction, The Flaming Lips, Social Distortion, Patti Smith, Paul Weller, The Afghan Whigs, Naked Raygun, Billy Bragg, Mudhoney, Thurston Moore, Buzzcocks, Stiff Little Fingers, Marky Ramone and more. Tickets are on sale now.

And the Denver fest — actually on a farm in Byers, Colo., about a half hour outside of Denver — also features Social Distortion, The Flaming Lips, Violent Femmes, Buzzocks, Bob Mould, Stiff Little Fingers and more. Tickets are on sale now.

I really wish we knew what day The Cure play. I can’t make it on a Friday, but can on a weekend. :(

My guess would be that they will be on Sunday night. That is what Riot Fest has done the past 2 years. Iggy & the Stooges did 2012 and The Replacements did 2013 both performed last on Sunday.
I just hope they don’t do like they did last year by placing The Pixies on an opposite stage to conflict with The Replacements. Didn’t get to see The Pixies but was right on the rail directly in front of Paul for The Replacements.

Wot! The Replacements when you could have heard the Pixies! Unbelievable! It is this sort of small blip in the universe that ends up with the orange idiot installed as King of Murica.

  3. You made the right call.

  4. So have The Cure just regulated themselves to a ‘festival’ band at this point, with a few one off shows here and there?

What happened to the next trilogy shows or the 4:14 Scream release lol?

  5. I will always have a place in my heart for the Cure, but I’m past the point where they engage me anymore. It makes me sad though because I do love this band, and I guess as a fan we sometimes want them to be the same as they were 20 or so years ago and that’s not realistic at all. Still… If Depeche Mode could reissue all their albums with bonuses in one year, I don’t see why The Cure can’t.

  6. Whoever buried Buzzcocks and put them under Samhain on the flyer needs to be fired. http://imgur.com/zXs0Plg
