Johnny Marr to publish autobiography in 2016: ‘The time has come to tell my story’

Johnny Marr

Johnny Marr this week made it official, formally announcing his long-discussed plans to pen a memoir, saying the book will be published in fall 2016 — three years after bandmate Morrissey’s much-buzzed “Autobiography.” No title has been announced for Marr’s book, but it will be published by Century.

On his website, the former Smiths guitarist says: “For the past few years as I’ve been out on tour promoting my solo work fans and journalists have been asking me when I’ll write my book. I’m very happy to say that the time has come to tell my story.”

Ben Dunn, Century’s publishing director, adds: “It’s the book Smiths fans have been waiting their whole lives and the early material that Johnny has written is utterly breathtaking. I’m delighted that Johnny has chosen Century to be his publisher.”

A paperback edition will follow in 2017.

Marr’s announcement comes just a day after news surfaced of Elvis Costello’s planned memoir.

  1. “You broke into my room just to read my diary. It was just to read all things you knew I’d written about you…” Hope that’s accurate- it’s from memory. Johnny please understand this one thing: there are no Smiths factions where fans only buy Morrissey music or your stuff. Only Morrissey fans who ALSO buy your music. So “stop me if you’ve heard this one before” and just give it up. Love the Mode cover by the way but don’t have one of those fancy players to listen to it on.

There’s more to life than books, you know, but not much more.

Well SOMEONE had to post it.
