Modern English touring U.S. in support of reunion album ‘Take Me To the Trees’

Before jumping on board the Retro Futura package tour with Howard Jones and The English Beat, Modern English embarks on a headlining tour of the U.S. in support of what’s being billed as the band’s first new album in 30 years — beginning with four sets at South By Southwest this week.

Following their appearance at the Austin, Texas, festival, the band heads out on a 20-date club tour of the U.S., with a lone Canadian date thrown in at the end.

The shows are in support of the just-released Take Me to the Trees, which features original members Robbie Grey, Mick Conroy, Gary McDowell and Stephen Walker. The original lineup, save for drummer Richard Brown, first reunited in 2010, around the time Grey released Soundtrack, which he’d recorded a few years earlier with a different Modern English lineup.

Below, see the full tour dates, and stream the track “You’re Corrupt” off the new album.

  1. Oh man, I can’t believe I made it thought that whole song.

  2. Harold E Grey

The album, take me to the trees, is actually quite good. Have a listen to the whole album. Flood of Light, I Feel Small and Dark Cloud are standout tracks. Good to have Gary McDowell back making original music with the rest of the band.

  3. I will check that out Harold. Thanks!

  4. The album is very good, but the production is poor. They should have asked Steve Albini. Its’ very dark. The guitar should be clearer.
