Paul Barker, the longtime Ministry bassist and producer, has released the second song off of The Eternal Present, the third record by his reactivated Lead Into Gold project. The new single is called “She Lies Beyond” — and you can hear it in full below.
Of the new single, Barker says:
“Lyrically, ‘She Lies Beyond’ is about the death of creativity but sonically is (hopefully) a contrast between pretty and ugly — the idea being that there is a natural grace to something ending but at the same time, the volition to create forces itself to be manifested. This is a natural cycle that everyone goes through in the creation of art.”
Barker was a major player in Wax Trax!-era industrial music, working with Al Jourgensen in Ministry for 17 years and also taking part in Revolting Cocks, Lard, 1,000 Homo DJs, Acid Horse, PTP, Pigface and more.
Lead Into Gold’s first incarnation released the 12-inch single “Idiot” in 1988 followed by another 12-inch, “Chicks & Speed: Futurism,” and the full-length album Age of Reason — containing the fan-favorite “Faster Than Light” — in 1990. In 2015, Barker released the Low & Slow EP, featuring 25-year-old Lead Into Gold recordings.
Then, in 2018, Barker released the first new Lead Into Gold music in a quarter-century with a 12-inch single followed by the act’s second album, The Sun Behind the Sun.
Now comes album No. 3, which Barker’s new label describes as “an adventurous romp through distorted and gnarly bass-driven industrial, where your greatest fears and dystopian dys-fantasies lay waiting for just a wee bit of courage.” And: “The album is smart, dark, melodic, abrasive and timeless.”
Lead Into Gold will open for Skinny Puppy on the industrial legends’ upcoming farewell tour. (Check out those dates over here.)
