Bob Mould plots 16-date U.S. solo-electric tour, promises to share new songs

Bob Mould

Bob Mould returns to the road with a trio of special appearances in August and September followed by a 16-date solo-electric tour of the United States, focusing on the Northeast and Midwest.

First up is a solo festival appearance at San Francisco’s Stern Grove Festival, where he’ll open for Patti Smith. Then he’ll play with his eponymous band — featuring Jason Narducy and Jon Wurster — at the WMSE Backyard BBQ in Milwaukee and the Minnesota State Fair, on a bill with The Hold Steady, in Minneapolis.

After that, the former Hüsker Dü frontman will embark on a 16-date solo-electric tour, which opens Oct. 6 in Washington, D.C., and runs through an Oct. 27 show in Stoughton, Wisconsin, with Narducy opening.

Mould says of the tour:

“I’m excited to be back in the Northeast and Midwest, especially during peak fall colors. I’m happy to have Jason supporting the tour — it’s been a while since we’ve done solo shows together. I’m nervous, too: I’ve got a handful of new songs to share with you.”

The tour announcement follows the release of a new two-disc collection of early Hüsker Dü live material. The just-released Tonite Longhorn is assembled from the “historical Hüsker Dü recording archives” of Minneapolis punk scene mainstay Terry Katzman. It features songs recorded across three different shows in 1979 and 1980 at the Longhorn Bar in Minneapolis.
