Siouxsie and Iggy Pop to play make-up sets at Cruel World festival site tonight

Siouxsie and Iggy Pop will play make-up sets at the site of the Cruel World festival in Pasadena, California, tonight after the festival was evacuated late Saturday night over concerns of lightning in the area, festival organizers announced early this morning.

A performance by Gary Numan, who played Saturday before the weather alert, and an opening DJ set from Club Doom Dave have been added to the bill, organizers announced later in the day Sunday.

In a social media post, Cruel World organizers said they evacuated the venue — a golf course next to the Rose Bowl stadium — “at the direction of (the) Pasadena Fire Department” on Saturday “due to unsafe weather conditions and lightning strikes in the area, verified by the National Weather Service.”

Fans, though, have complained vociferously on social media that they saw no severe weather — not even rain — at the festival site when the plug was pulled during Iggy Pop’s set. Siouxsie, the headliner, was supposed to have played her first U.S. show in 15 years, the only appearance in this country during her live comeback this summer.

Both artists will play tonight at Brookside at the Rose Bowl, “with Siouxsie performing an extended set,” Cruel World organizers promised — reiterating that it will be her only North American performance this year. No mention was made of The Human League, whose set also was interrupted by the evacuation.

“Please understand that this was as bitterly disappointing for us as it was for you and no doubt for Iggy and Siouxsie as well,” The Human League wrote in a statement posted to Facebook. “Although they at least will now have the chance to play their sets today where we, unfortunately, will not.”

All types of passes to Saturday’s festival will again be honored at tonight’s make-up show, organizers said.

Doors open at 5 p.m. and parking will be free. Gary Numan takes the stage at 6 p.m., Iggy Pop follows at 7 p.m. and Siouxsie will play a 90-minute set beginning at 8:20 p.m.

According to organizers, “Orders will begin populating back into your AXS account this afternoon. We will send you an email with more details shortly.”
