Out this week: The Alarm, Pet Shop Boys, The Flaming Lips, And Also the Trees

This is a round-up of the week’s new albums, expanded reissues and/or box sets, appearing each Monday on Slicing Up Eyeballs. All releases due out this coming Friday unless noted. May also include some other titles released in recent weeks but not previously featured.

RELEASE: Forwards
DETAILS: Mike Peters returns with a new Alarm studio album this week after being sidelined for the better part of a year due to pneumonia and a serious leukemia relapse. Features the songs “Love and Forgiveness,” “Next” and “Another Way.”


Pet Shop Boys

RELEASE: SMASH — The Singles 1985-2020 
DETAILS: The Pet Shop Boys collect 55 of their singles released between 1985 and 2020 in a brand-new collection this week that spreads the tracks across either six vinyl LPs or three CDs. Features “West End Girls,” “Rent,” “Being Boring” and more.


The Flaming Lips

RELEASE: Hypnotist
DETAILS: This limited-edition LP, pressed on pink vinyl, features five tracks from the 6CD Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots 20th anniversary box set that weren’t included on the vinyl version, including the instrumental version of “Do You Realize??”


And Also the Trees

RELEASE: The Evening of the 24th
DETAILS: A newly remixed, CD-only reissue of And Also the Trees’ long-out-of-print 1987 live album arrives this week, with four bonus tracks: “Maps in Her Wrists and Arms,” “Impulse of Man,” “The Secret Sea” and “There Was a Man of Double Deed.”
