Matt Johnson is taking The The back out on the road next year for the first time since the band’s 2018 comeback tour, today announcing four headlining concerts in the U.K. next September that will be part of the broader Ensouled World Tour 2024.
The concerts, which run Sept. 25 through 30, are set for Edinburgh, Wolverhampton, London and Manchester. Tickets will first go on sale to The The’s newsletter subscribers — sign up at thethe.com/mailing-list — at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11. The general on-sale follows at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 13.
The The “will also head out globally next year on their Ensouled World Tour, full details of which will be announced shortly,” Johnson announced on social media.
Johnson took The The on the road in 2018 for the band’s first live performances in 16 years, undertaking the Comeback Special tour that later was commemorated with a live album and film. For that trek, Johnson was joined three members of past The The lineups — James Eller on bass, DC Collard on keyboards and Earl Harvin on drums — plus new member Barrie Cadogan on guitar.
It’s not yet clear if that same lineup will perform on the 2024 tour — or whether a new album will arrive in conjunction with the concerts. Johnson has released several new The The songs via 7-inch single in recent years.
