Video: Shane MacGowan enlists Nick Cave, Mick Jones, Chrissie Hynde for Haiti single

In some ways it’s the antidote to the schmaltzy, celeb-soaked remakes of “We Are the World” and R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts”: a new Haiti benefit single by iconic punk and post-punk figures such as The Pogues’ Shane MacGowan, Nick Cave, Mick Jones of The Clash, the Sex Pistols’ Glen Matlock, Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders and Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie.

This video from the UK’s Channel 4 — via TwentyFourBit — captures the group in the studio working on a cover of Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ swampy classic “I Put a Spell on You,” which will be released in late February and benefit Concern Worldwide, an Irish charity that long has done work in Haiti. Actor/rock ‘n’ roller Johnny Depp is also reported to be involved with the track, but he’s not seen in this clip.
