Linkage: Morrissey hints at 2014 retirement, plus ‘Copper Blue,’ PiL, Chris Mars

A collection of some interesting links we recently stumbled across:

Morrissey: Wordsmith MSN asks Moz if he still plans on retiring at age 55: “Yes. I am slightly shocked to have gone as far as I have. This is my 30th year, and I’ve aged a lot recently, which is bit distressing for me, as it must be for everyone. The body changes shape and there’s nothing you can do about it. Do I continue as a modern day Andy Williams? I take one hour at a time. We will all probably be blown up by the Syrian government soon, anyway, so it hardly matters in the great scheme of things.” [msn.juiceonline.com]

‘Copper Blue’ 20 Years On: Sugar’s Bob Mould Interviewed The former Hüsker Dü frontman revisits the classic 1992 debut of his band Sugar on its 20th anniversary, as he reissues that group’s full catalog and performs Copper Blue live in its entirety for the first time this year. And he’s having a blast: “It’s a fucking party is what it is! I love those songs, I love that record and I love playing those songs. They’re fun to play.” [The Quietus]

‘Public Image was a training camp,’ John Lydon says The PiL frontman talks about that band’s resurrection and new album, This Is PiL, as well as punk and his relationship with the Sex Pistols: “I suppose they’re fine. We don’t see much of each other — I don’t mean that badly. I just don’t have time for that.” [Los Angeles Times]

An Artist’s Progression: Talking With Chris Mars The former Replacements drummer discusses art and music: “After the Replacements, and after I expressed myself musically with my solo records, I felt I had thoroughly exorcised music from my system.  I could then let the visual art flow completely and it was a feeling of freedom devoid of rules and typical structure, for me, like going from a box to an open field.  Eventually the music bug returned, but my engagement is more of an aside these days…generally as accompaniment to my films.” [Figment]
