Bob Mould to mount brief U.S. tour in October in support of ‘Life and Times’

Bob Mould

Former Husker Du and Sugar frontman — and occasional electronic-music dabbler — Bob Mould this week announced a brief slate of U.S. tour dates this October in support of his latest album, Life and Times.

The nine-date trek — which will feature Mould backed by a full band — opens Oct. 7 in Boston and wraps a few weeks later, on Oct. 20, in Solana Beach, north of San Diego.

The tour supports Mould’s acclaimed ninth solo LP, released this past April.

The musician has noted that Life and Times marks a pair of milestones: the 30th anniversary of Husker Du’s on-stage debut, and the 20th anniversary of Mould’s solo debut, the classic Workbook.

Mould has said the new record owes a debt to that 1989 release:

“The concept was to put myself in the compositional space I was in back in 1988,” Mould writes on his Web site. “Not so much sitting on a farm by myself, writing songs in the wake of the breakup of Husker Du, but in the mechanics of writing… On Workbook, the stories came first, and the music later. The idea was to revisit that approach, since this release would line up with the 20th anniversary.”

Bob Mould tour dates:

Oct. 7: Paradise, Boston, MA
Oct. 8: Irving Plaza, New York, NY
Oct. 10: 9:30 Club, Washington, DC
Oct. 12: Metro, Chicago, IL
