New releases: The Smiths vinyl reissues, new Fall live CD, New Order re-reissues

The Smiths, 'Meat is Murder'

Record Rack: A weekly round-up of the pertinent new albums, reissues and/or box sets due out Tuesday.

ARTIST: The Smiths
RELEASES: The Smiths, Meat is Murder, The Queen is Dead, Strangeways Here We Come
BACKSTORY: Yes, these are the vinyl reissues Morrissey doesn’t want you to buy. Rhino Records this week releases new 180-gram vinyl editions of the Smiths’ four classic studio albums, remastered by Frank Arkwright under the watchful eyes (and ears) of Johnny Marr himself.

ARTIST: New Order
RELEASES: Movement; Power, Corruption and Lies; Low-Life; Brotherhood; Technique
BACKSTORY: Rhino finally makes good on last year’s botched reissues, delivering new editions of the band’s first five albums in purportedly corrected CD versions. Over in the UK, the same albums also are being issued on 180-gram vinyl.

ARTIST: The Fall
RELEASES: Last Night at the Palais
BACKSTORY: This 12-track CD+DVD live document captures Mark E. Smith and Co.’s April 1, 2007, concert at London’s Hammersmith Palais — the last concert, in fact, ever held at the historic concert hall.

  1. Wasn’t it the cd singles box set Morrissey had issues with, not these lps?

  2. From the statement posted to True to You:

“Morrissey also does not approve of, and was not consulted on, the Rhino box of Smiths CDs, or the Warner releases of Smiths LPs on 180 gramme vinyl”

  3. Thanks!
